The CKA story so far

Welcome to CKA

CKA is a small emerging business, our site is currently being built and our beautiful, engaging, and inspiring craft kits are being added. I appreciate your patience and curiosity as we get this amazing new venture online.

Hi, my name is Kellie, I founded and run Craft Kits Australia.

Some of my happiest memories as a child are making crafts, especially Christmas crafts, it’s where my love of crafts and handmade items began. 

Growing up, we didn't have lots of money for craft machines, classes, or even store-bought materials, but my mum managed to inspire my creativity, which grew my confidence and belief in my ability to solve problems and drive creative change in my world. I know it might sound a bit overblown, but seriously, this greatly supported my self-belief and 'I can do that' attitude in life, which has served me well.

My mum had an old pine trunk that she called ‘The Useful Box’ (I know she got it off Play School... but she founded and supported this tradition for years!), all our old cardboard boxes, toilet rolls, old bits of fabric, and other odds and ends went in there. When I was bored, I was encouraged to delve into the useful box and see what I could create. I created stores, houses, outfits, personas, and whole new worlds out of that useful box, and I thrived on the limitless imaginative possibilities. I feel like I want to share that with others, I want to pass on the legacy that she gave me.

And so, I began (a few years ago now) to design and create craft kits, aimed at using base materials and crafty skills to inspire the same confidence and passion in others (kids & adults). I design the kits based, to be totally honest, on what I would have liked to get as a child & what I would love to get now as an adult. I am always very mindful to try and provide everything that you will need in the kit, except for things like glue and scissors etc. I want you to open the kit, get excited and inspired and be able to delve straight in. I'm also mindful that additional extras that need to be purchased can sometimes mean projects go unfinished, which I want to avoid.

I am also studying psychology ( a Bachelors degree in Psychological Science) and have a long career history of working in organisational change and training programs. I want to inspire people of all ages to learn new skills, explore new materials, and build the confidence to approach obstacles in their lives (not just in crafting) with an 'I can do that' attitude. Inspiring enquiring minds that seek to understand the new and have a passion to innovate and grow (a growth mindset). These aspects come into the design and development of all my craft kits.
