The only things you will need to supply yourself are:

  • An oven, preheated to 180 degrees Celcius (160 fan-forced)

  • Baking tray and Baking paper

  • A tea towel or other soft, absorbable material

  • An egg white to glue to seed bomb together

  • Wisk or electric mixer to mix the egg white glue

  • Mixing bowl

  • Glue (glue stick or PVA)

  • A pen or something to write on the name tags

In your kit you should have:

  • Dry paper pulp

  • A flower cookie cutter mould

  • A sponge (please rinse before use)

  • An absorbent cloth

  • A wooden bead

  • A popsicle stick

  • 10 Name tags

  • 10 Aussie Gum leaf & Gum nut decals

  • 10 lengths of twine

You will be using the paper pulp (once rehydrated) to make the seed bombs in 2 halves (10x tops and 10x bases); these will be dried in the oven before being filled with seed mix and glued together with egg whites.

Once you have created your seed bombs, they can be tied to the place cards with the provided twine.

We have also provided some Aussie Christmas Gum leaves & nuts decals to decorate your name tags; once decorated, you can add each person's name and simply slot them onto the cards.

Instructions - Creating the Pulp Flower Bases:

  • Tear up & soak your dry pulp sheets in warm water (about 1 cup) in a bowl. Let it sit for a few minutes and then use your fingers to break them up and help them become all pulp-y again.

  • Lay a tea towel or other fabric down on a hard work surface that is okay to get wet, and place the folded provided absorbent cloth on top.

  • place your cookie cutter mould on the towels and have your rehydrated pulp close to hand. Get a baking tray lined with baking paper ready also to transfer your creations to.

  • Fill the mould to just below the top with the wet pulp mixture.

  • Use your sponge to gently remove the water at first and then with increasing pressure. You will need to press the sponge into the mould and then squeeze it out (into your pulp bowl) about 3-4 times. Press into all the sections of the mould to get the pulp as flat as possible. The more water you take out here and the flatter you can make it, the easier it will be to handle and dry later. Use the popsicle stick to press each petal section down flat before removing it from the mould.

  • Use the popsicle stick to remove the pulp from the base of the mould gently, you have made a ‘pulp flower base’.

  • If there are any bits sticking up on the petal ends, simply fold them to the back gently and press with your fingers.

  • Place the pulp flower bases onto the baking tray and press flat gently (leave room for the tops).

  • You will need 10 bases and 10 tops - soon, you will fill them with the seed mix and glue them together to create the seed bombs.

Instructions - Creating the Pulp Flower Tops:

  • To make the pulp flower tops, follow the same steps as the base, but before you put them onto the baking tray, you will create the moulded flower centre, which will hold the seed mix. turn the pulp flower base over and firmly but carefully push the wooden bead into the centre of the flower. You want to create a small hollow but don’t want to rip the pulp or make holes. You have made a ‘pulp flower top’.

  • Place the pulp flower top into the baking tray and carefully press down ONLY on the petals around the outside... be careful not to flatten the hollow you just made. The hollow now becomes the middle part of the flower design, each one different, just like in nature.

  • Once you have 10 bases and 10 tops, bake them in the oven @ 200 degrees (180 fan- forced) for about 20-25 mins (depending on how much water you managed to sponge out during making). Check on them often; they should feel dry and light. Once they are dried, leave them to cool.

Instructions - Essemble the Seed Bombs:

  • To make the egg white ‘glue’, simply whisk an egg white for a few minutes, until it is frothy (not merengue).

  • Use the popsicle stick to put the egg white glue onto the backs of the petals on a flower base, and flower top (avoid the middle/hollow).

  • Place both (glue side up) on a work surface, and gently pour 1/10 of the seed mix into the hollow in the flower top. A folded piece of paper may help you pour in enough seed mix.

  • Hold the flower top carefully (so you don’t spill the seed mix) and place the flower base on top - glue sides together. Line up the petals and press them together firmly to help set the glue (20 secs). Place the assembled seed bomb gently down (flower base facing up) on the work surface.

  • Complete the other 10 seed bombs in the same way.

  • Set them aside to dry, the egg white glue should dry within 1/2 hr.

Instructions - Essemble the Place Cards:

  • Use the twine provided to lash the seed bombs to the place cards in the kit. From the back of the card, thread one end through the bottom left hole, and back through the top left hole. Now, thread the other end through the bottom right hole and back through the top right hole. leaving two loops sticking up for the bomb to be secured in.

  • Slide the seed bomb under the two twine loops and pull the twine tight at the back; make sure the twine lays snugly between the petals and holds the bomb securely.

  • Tie a knot and bow in the twine on the back side of the card to keep the seed bomb secure.

  • Using a small amount of glue (glue stick or PVA), glue a gum leaf decal onto each name tag.

  • Write each guest's name on a name tag, the name tag has a hole for the twine, there is a slit in the end of the tag so you can slip one side under the twine and secure it to the place card. (if you are not sure who will be coming just yet, this and the next step can wait until you are sure).
