Wooden Sled

Contents: Popsicle Sticks - Star Bead - Hessian - string

Complexity (1-10): 7

Glue: PVA, Glue Stick, or Hot Glue would work well for this project

Instructions

You might have red, blue, orange, or yellow sticks to make a different-coloured sled, the pictures will show a red sled being constructed. First, lay out the 5 full coloured popsicle sticks and offset each by about 0.75cm (or whatever looks good to you), making them into an arrow shape like the picture. Glue the 2x 1/3 plain wood popsicle stick pieces across the 5 sticks (a little in from the edges) as braces, this forms the body of the sled.

Next, Glue the 2 pairs of full plain wood popsicle sticks together (like in the picture) with a 5.5cm overlap. This forms the sled's runners.

Once the glue has set, glue these runners onto the body of the sled, on the outside edge of the braces you just attached. The runners should overhang the body of the sled by the same amount at each end, measuring from the most sticky-outy coloured popsicle sticks. This would be measuring from the centre of the arrow shape at the front and from the side edge of the arrow shape at the rear of the sled.

To create the handle, tie each end of the string around one side of the 1/2 coloured popsicle stick piece, then glue it onto the front runners with the knots on the bottom. Trim the string if required.

Glue the star bead onto the coloured handle piece (or anywhere you like on the sled - make it your own)..

Then, tie a bow in the hessian strip provided. Stick the hessian bow onto the sled body using the sticky dot provided. I have stuck it onto the middle of the sled, but you might like to stick it onto the bottom at a jaunty angle... do what looks good to you.
